Laser Skin Resurfacing

Our skin is consistently exposed to elements including ultraviolet rays of sun, dust, environmental pollutants, and chemicals in various cosmetics and toiletries.

Laser resurfacing is the most recently developed technique for skin resurfacing. Specially designed, pulsed CO2 lasers can vaporize skin layer-by-layer, causing minimal damage to other skin tissue. Special scanning devices move the laser light across the skin in predetermined patterns, ensuring proper exposure. Wrinkling around the eyes, mouth, and cheeks are the primary uses for laser resurfacing. Smile lines or those associated with other facial muscles tend to reappear after laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing appears to achieve its best results as a spot treatment.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

How Does it Work?
The laser light is absorbed by the water in your skin cells. The absorption in turn causes the instantaneous vaporization or destruction of the cell. As your physician passes the laser light over your skin, a mere 30 millionth of an inch of tissue is removed at a time. This incredible control allows your physician to treat only as deeply as needed, from removing wrinkles to merely refreshing your overall skin appearance. After the damaged skin is removed, new skin will quickly regrow in its place. Recovery Time: Back to work: 1 week. More strenuous activities: 2-4 weeks. Complete fading of redness: 2 months or less. Return of pigmentation/light sun exposure: 6-12 months.

Is there Pain?
The level of discomfort is different for every person and also varies by the location and surface area to be treated. Many patients do not request any pain medication during treatment and relate the discomfort as comparable to a sunburn. Other patients will appreciate a topical or more extensive anesthetic. We will discuss your options with you based upon your own tolerance and the specific areas to be treated. Laser resurfacing may cause the skin to became raw, red or pink with mild to moderate discomfort for several days following the procedure. Although over the counter medication is usually sufficient your physician may recommend alternative pain relief options to keep you comfortable.

Cosmetic Procedures
cosmetic proceduresThanks to research breakthroughs, clinical advances and instrumentation innovations pioneered by skin surgery experts, the majority of cosmetic surgeries is now minimally invasive and requires only local or regional anesthesia. This translates into superior patient safety while reducing the all-important "downtime" and recovery period. In addition, new developments and the latest techniques are constantly enhancing the results of many established skin surgery procedures.
Aging Changes
Dental Implants
dental implantDid you know that dental implants are frequently the best treatment option for replacing missing teeth? Rather than resting on the gum line like removable dentures, or using adjacent teeth as anchors like fixed bridgers, dental implants are long term replacements that your oral and maxillofacial surgeon surgically places in the jawbone.
