Banish wrinkles and frown lines with forehead lift surgery.

A forehead lift is a type of cosmetic surgery done to get rid of wrinkles or frown lines on the forehead and to correct drooping eyebrows or eyelids. This is an increasingly popular surgery - the American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates that the number of forehead lift surgeries has risen 172% since 1992.

This surgery is done for cosmetic reasons. As people age, the forehead shows horizontal wrinkles. Even those as young as 40 sometimes have horizontal frown lines, possibly from excessive stress over the years. In addition, the tissues and muscles in the region of the eyes tend to become loose with age. This causes the eyebrows or eyelids to droop; this condition is called ptosis. It can cause the person to look perpetually sad, angry or upset. A forehead lift can often correct these problems.

Forehead Lift

A forehead lift may raise the brow and smooths creases, especially in the area between the eyes. It creates a more youthful look to the face. Its effects on creases are usually more long lasting than Botox.

Method:
The method is to tighten the skin and the underlying muscle of the forehead. The incision is usually placed in the hairline or an inch(2.5 cm) or so back in the scalp. It extends from one side to the other. The operation is done under either local anesthetic (you are awake) or general anesthetic (you are asleep). You can often choose. Most of the time this is an outpatient operation and a stay in the hospital is not needed. In younger patients, the operation may be done using the endoscopic or keyhole approach so that there is less scarring but the result may be less long lasting. Endoscopic or keyhole surgery: Over the last few years plastic surgeons have developed the technique of endoscopic or keyhole surgery. This is a modification of the technology of laparscopy and arthroscopy. It allows the surgeon to do surgery through small incisions and therefore leave fewer scars. Several operations can be done with an endoscopic approach. This may be an option in your surgery.

Possible Problems:
All operations have some risk. We can divide the risks of surgery into two groups. First those that are seen in all operations and second those that are unique or special for this operation. In the first group, the main risks are swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, a scar and numbness or change in feeling. The main problem which is special for this operation is damage to the nerves of feeling of the scalp which causes numbness behind the incision, this risk is reduced but not eliminated with endoscopic forehead lifting. Also, the scar can stretch and because scar does not grow hair this may be noticeable in those with thin hair.

Postoperative care:
The recovery takes one to two weeks. Most people are back to work within a week or two.

Cosmetic Procedures
cosmetic proceduresThanks to research breakthroughs, clinical advances and instrumentation innovations pioneered by skin surgery experts, the majority of cosmetic surgeries is now minimally invasive and requires only local or regional anesthesia. This translates into superior patient safety while reducing the all-important "downtime" and recovery period. In addition, new developments and the latest techniques are constantly enhancing the results of many established skin surgery procedures.

Dental Implants
dental implantDid you know that dental implants are frequently the best treatment option for replacing missing teeth? Rather than resting on the gum line like removable dentures, or using adjacent teeth as anchors like fixed bridgers, dental implants are long term replacements that your oral and maxillofacial surgeon surgically places in the jawbone.
